Find Your Voice In The Liminal Place

Silence Serves No One.

Liminal places are transitional by definition and change is often uncomfortable, but it’s only in the uncomfortable in-between spaces, that growth and learning can happen.

The stubbornness of gender bias is rooted in society’s belief systems and for meaningful change to happen it’s important to raise awareness so we can start shifting attitudes in creating workplaces that are blind to gender.

ABOUT US

The Liminal Place was founded by a conversation between two women sharing their collective experiences of gender bias in the automotive industry.  Acknowledging that as women we are stronger when we stand together, we set off to build a women-only community that provides a safe place to find support and mentorship as we navigate these issues together.

Dee Murphy is the Digital Desking Senior Manager at AutoVerify.  After returning to Canada upon completing MA studies, a chance encounter launched her automotive career.  Dee spent the first decade of her career in this industry working in retail specializing in non-prime financing.  Shortly after transitioning into her current role she had the honour of being a 2020 keynote speaker at the Women & Automotive Canadian Leadership Conference giving a talk entitled Fear is a Four Letter Word, and in 2021 was a Profiles in Leadership honouree.  Dee is passionate about gender equity and is a regular contributor to AutoRemarketing Magazine writing on women’s issues.

Logan Keirstead started her automotive career in 2012 with startup Selectbidder, working closely with independent auctions across the USA and Canada. Since joining Accu-Trade in 2016, she has spoken at Auto Remarketing Canada, Dealer Huddle, Digital Dealer, Women & Automotive, and Women in Automotive. She was recognized as a Women in Automotive Profile in Leadership in 2017, and an AutoRemarketing 40 Under 40 in 2018. Logan hopes The Liminal Place becomes a community of learning and mentorship for women facing bias - including herself. She relies on her morning routine, and walks with her dog Sadie to keep her health in check.

I came into this industry at a tough time for me personally and it provided me with opportunity for which I am deeply blessed and grateful. There’s no shortage of barriers preventing women from entering and also finding success in the automotive industry and change will only come through an awareness of what those are and a collective effort to start breaking them down.
